Day One

a new beginning...

Shake off the dust and the germs..
I really meant to throw these in the washer to clean off the NICU germs back in August, honest, I did.  They have been sitting in my closet ever since.

DISCLAIMER: I rubbed all the above items down very well with alcohol.

Welcome, All

For a while now, I have been toying with the idea of starting a blog, particularly because I have been developing passions for cooking, crocheting/knitting, and photography over the past few years. I have found many wonderful blogs out there that are overflowing with inspiring ideas, thoughts, and images.

One thing I have realized when reading these blogs, is that those who write them take time out of their busy lives to capture, describe and recall moments in their lives -- not just "big moments", but every day moments, every day details, that are easy to overlook in a world filled with so many distractions and activities.

I am trying to take time to "smell the roses," or in my case "thyme for tea." The concept of afternoon tea has always appealed to me. How wonderful would it be if we could all take a half hour in the afternoon, right around the time we are losing energy after lunch, to sit down and sip warm tea and slather lemon curd and fresh clotted cream on crumbly scones?

Our busy society isn't conducive to having afternoon tea every day, but I can still stop and just BE...

to hear a frog croaking on a summer night...

to admire the formation of snowflakes settled on a bush...

to notice the details of every day, seemingly "mundane" things, like the bumps and ridges along the bark of a tree while waiting at the bus stop.

I have drawn inspiration from other bloggers with a "natural" approach to life, from documentaries and the occasional book, from researching articles and organizations, and from my own experiences. I am hoping to share my thoughts on topics like...

+buying and cooking with organic, sustainable ingredients

+creating your own chemical-free concoctions for cleaning and beautifying

+crocheting and crafting my own home items and gifts

+making informed decisions when shopping for food, clothing, toys, and everyday home items

+supporting local initiatives and fair-trade organizations that work to provide others with skills, schooling and fair wages

+capturing moments through different perspectives using my camera lens

So...go ahead, spend a couple bucks and buy a fresh sprig of thyme (or rosemary or sage or dill) and leave the spice shaker of dried herbs in the pantry. Take the time to smell the unique fragrance of the fresh thyme leaves, slide the leaves off the woody stem, and experiment with these little green specs in new dish. And don't forget to enjoy a cuppa tea.
